From September 9 to 16, 2025, the Town of Tecumseh proudly recognized Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a Gold Ribbon Flag raised at Town Hall and the building illuminated in yellow. The symbolic tribute served as a powerful reminder of the impact childhood cancer has on families and the importance of community support.
September is recognized internationally as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness about the unique challenges faced by children diagnosed with cancer. Unlike adult cancers, childhood cancers often have no clear cause and require intensive treatments that affect growing and developing bodies.
In Ontario, nearly 500 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and more than 4,500 families are navigating treatment or follow-up care. Alarmingly, two out of every three survivors face increased risks of long-term effects from their illness or treatment.
The Town’s participation in this global awareness effort offered residents a moment to reflect on how they can better support children affected by cancer, along with their families and caregivers.
