Mike Seguin was officially sworn in as a member of LaSalle Council during the Regular Meeting of Council held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the LaSalle Civic Centre. Seguin was elected in the 2025 LaSalle Municipal By-Election on October 20, following the passing of long-serving Councillor Sue Desjarlais. His term will run until November 14, 2026, with the next municipal election scheduled for October 2026.

The swearing-in ceremony marked a significant moment for the Town of LaSalle, as Seguin took the Declaration of Office surrounded by Mayor Crystal Meloche, fellow Council members, and members of the public. Mayor Meloche welcomed Seguin warmly, stating, “On behalf of Council, we extend a warm welcome to Mike and welcome him to the team. His commitment to public service is appreciated, and we look forward to working together to serve the residents of LaSalle.”

Seguin’s election comes at a time of transition and reflection for the community, following the loss of Councillor Desjarlais, who served LaSalle with dedication and distinction. Seguin acknowledged the legacy left behind and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

The 2025 LaSalle Municipal By-Election saw a total of 3,402 ballots cast from 27,294 eligible voters, resulting in a voter turnout of 12.46%. Seguin led the race with 1,197 votes, followed by Brad Krewench with 824 votes and Robert Moore with 729. Other candidates included Kate Paddon (216), Robbie Durling (207), Tory McKay (171), and Brandon Meloche (49). Nine ballots were declined.

Voter turnout varied significantly by age group, with the highest participation among residents aged 60–69 (16.40%) and 70–79 (19.42%). The lowest turnout was recorded among voters aged 90–99 (5.76%) and 100+ (6.25%). Notably, young voters aged 18–19 showed a relatively strong turnout at 30.46%, though their numbers were small.

Seguin’s appointment adds a new voice to Council as it continues to address key issues facing the municipality, including housing, infrastructure, and community development. His term will coincide with major initiatives already underway, and his contributions are expected to shape the direction of LaSalle’s future.
