The Ontario government has approved $240,000 in funding for the Town of Tecumseh through the Rural Economic Development (RED) program, supporting streetscaping and landscaping improvements along Lesperance Road, from McNorton Street to First Street. The investment is part of the Tecumseh Road Main Street Community Improvement Plan (CIP) aimed at revitalizing the area.
In June, Ontario’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced $5.7 million in funding for 85 projects across the province as part of the RED program, which provides cost-sharing support to strengthen rural communities and promote economic development in Ontario.
“I’m proud to see our government’s support for Tecumseh’s revitalization of its Main Street business district,” said Andrew Dowie, MPP for Windsor–Tecumseh. “This investment through the RED fund will enhance the historical public infrastructure that Tecumseh residents have cherished for years.”
The Lesperance North project will include new street trees, landscaping, and decorative lighting, creating a connected and accessible public space to support a vibrant, healthy community.
“We are grateful to the Ontario government for their continued support through the RED program, which allows us to improve the character and livability of Tecumseh,” said Mayor Gary McNamara. “This project is about more than beautification; it’s about creating a welcoming, resilient community for future generations.”
Construction for the Tecumseh Road Main Street CIP Streetscaping and Landscaping Beautification – Lesperance North project is set to begin in spring 2025.
